The Kennedy Center Honors…. Paul McCartney

This morning I woke up with an email from my dad saying: “You will enjoy watching this if you have not seen it already.” – He knows me very well!

The Kennedy Center Honors honoring Paul McCartney is the following video and includes performances by James Taylor and Mavis Staples, Dave Grohl and Norah Jones, No Doubt and Steven Tyler.

I must say, when Steven Tyler began performing, I got goosebumps and started crying.

Paul McCartney and The Beatles form a massive part of my life and I’m sure a lot of your lives also….

Long live Paul and thank you for the incredible, touching, heart melting music you blessed us with.

Inside Abbey Road

Abbey Road Studios is a recording studio that was established in November 1931.

Apart from being the name of one of the most important albums in the world by The Beatles, Abbey Road is very well known for being a venue for innovative recording techniques in the 1960’s.

Bands such as The Beatles, the Hollies, Pink Floyd, Mick Jagger, Michael Jackson, Paul Robeson, Cliff Richard, Blur, Gustavo Cerati, Dura Duran, Enya, Radiohead, Oasis, Foo Fighters, Meat Loaf, Dave Matthews, Depeche Mode, and a ton more of insane bands and artists have worked at Abbey Road Studios. – To be honest, if I were a musician, I’d def do some work at the studio… Abbey Road Studios is iconic, and will continue being a legendary place till the world ends.

Well, now all of us music lovers will get the chance to have a sneak peak at what the famous studio actually looks like thanks to Google!

Texas ft. Paul Buchanan (Live at Abbey Road) – Sleep

Mark Chapman has said he is “sorry for being such an idiot” in reference to killing John Lennon

Mark David Chapman, better known as the man that killed John Lennon outside the Dakota apartment building in New York where he lived with his wife, Yoko said “I am sorry for causing that type of pain. I am sorry for such an idiot and choosing the wrong way for glory.”

John Lennon was shot 5 times on December 8th 1980 by Mark. He also shot Yoko 4 times, but she thankfully made it through.
I wasn’t born at the time of Lennon’s death but I know that the world changed after that day… John was loved by so many, he was a warrior, fought for what he believed and thought, he had “it”.

Chapman, a man that is hated by millions revealed in a 2010 hearing that he had also considered shooting talk show host Johnny Carson or actress Elizabeth Taylor but had opted to target the Beatle as he thought he was more accessible.

What can I say…?! There are some very messed up people in this world.

“You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one…. I hope someday you join us and the world will live as one…”

William Shakespeare and The Beatles

William Shakespeare: Born in Statford-upon-Avon on the 26th April 1564 and passed away on the 23rd April 1616.

He was an english poet, playwright and actor and is regarded the greatest writer in the English language.

His early plays were mainly comedies and histories until writing tragedies such as:
Romeo and Juliet – “Don’t waste your love on somebody, who doesn’t value it.”
Hamlet – “To be, or not to be, that is the question.”
Macbeth – “What’s done cannot be undone.”
Othello – “For she had eyes and chose me.”
Those are a few famous lines that I love from Shakespeare’s most famous pieces of art.

I’m writing about William Shakespeare because I came across this legendary picture of The Beatles celebrating Shakespeare’s 400th Birthday in April 1964 and wanted to share it with you all.

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds will never be the same again…

The Flaming Lips, Miley Cyrus and Moby got together and did a cover of The Beatles “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds”.

The original song by the Liverpudlian quartet came out in 1967 and was written by John Lennon. There was (and still is) a lot of controversy regarding what the initials of the song actually mean (LSD). Lennon denied that the song referred to the psychedelic drug and said that his son, Julian, inspired the song with a nursery school drawing he called “Lucy – in the sky with diamonds”. – Having a dad as free spirited, artistic, and creative as John, to be honest, I can believe that Julian did actually draw something and named it that…

The song Miley, Moby and The Flaming Lips covered lasts five minutes and twenty four seconds (yes, it took you forever to read how long the song lasts, and that’s exactly how long the video and song lasted for me, an eternity…)
The three artists that collaborated on this song are without doubt very talented people, but I personally disliked the video a lot, I think the chorus is WAY to saturated, it actually makes me heave… I understand that they wanted to do their own version of the song, and that’s great, but I think Santa Claus, a jelly brain, Miley swearing, the screen shot pic that’s at the top of this post and other stuff is way too much. The Beatles are and were a very funky band, naturally, this is just too much for my liking.

Have a look and listen to the trios cover, and please, let me know what you think!
