When all is one and one is all, to be a rock and not to roll…

English rock band Led Zeppelin released one of the most important and greatest rock songs in history in 1971; Stairway to Heaven.

Composed by Jimmy Page (guitarist of the band) and Robert Plant (vocalist), the song is featured on the bands untitled fourth studio album. (The album is known as Led Zeppelin IV).

This is what Jimmy had to say about the song years ago:

“I had these pieces, these guitar pieces, that I wanted to put together. I had a whole idea of a piece of music that I really wanted to try and present to everybody and try and come to terms with. Bit difficult really, because it started on acoustic, and as you know it goes through to the electric parts. But we had various run-throughs (at Headley Grange) where I was playing the acoustic guitar and jumping up and picking up the electric guitar. Robert was sitting in the corner, or rather leaning against the wall, and as I was routining the rest of the band with this idea and this piece, he was just writing. And all of a sudden he got up and started singing, along with another run-through, and he must have had 80% of the words there … I had these sections, and I knew what order they were going to go in, but it was just a matter of getting everybody to feel comfortable with each gear shift that was going to be coming.”

On a day like today in 1954 and 1966…

On a day like today in 1954, my favourite person in the world was born…

My dad and I <3
My dad and I <3

I’m talking about my dad!!!

Happy birthday to my soul mate.

Apart from being an exceptionally incredible dad, he’s free spirited, wacky, funny, quirky, loving, caring and I admire him a hell of a lot!

Thank you for never giving up on your dreams, for following your passions and for believing in yourself, because thanks to that, I can do and be exactly who I want to be every single day!

Also on this day, buy back in 1966 (50 years ago), Pet Sounds was released.

Pet Sounds is the name of american rock band the Beach Boys 11th studio album.

Songs like Wouldn’t It Be Nice, God Only Knows, Sloop John B and  You Still Believe In Me are on this absolutely terrific album.

Pet Sounds is considered to be one of the most influential albums is music history.

(and I couldn’t agree more! Have a listen to the album from beginning to end when possible!)

Have a listen to one my favourite Beach Boys songs, God Only Knows featured on Pet Sounds, here!

Stairway to Heaven like you’ve never heard it before

Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, John Bonham are better known as the guys that formed Led Zeppelin.

Three of the 4 are still with us today; Plant, Jimmy and John Paul Jones and they were amongst the artists celebrated at the 35th annual Kennedy Centre Honors in Washington D.C. on the 2nd of December 2012.

Ann and Nancy Wilson from Heart were the ones responsible for bringing Plant to tears while they paid tribute to one of Zeppelin’s most iconic songs; Stairway to Heaven.

Stairway to Heaven is considered one of the best songs of all time, it’s a classic and will live on forever.

John Bonham was the drummer of Led Zeppelin and passed away on the 25th September 1980. Bonham is considered one of the best rock drummers and was known for his power, speed and distinctive sound.
His son, Jason was the guy to play the drums at the event that took place at the Kennedy Centre (you must see his face when the song comes to and end, it’s priceless).

Long live rock music!

Every Other Freckle, alt-J’s latest release!

alt-J is a english indie/experimental rock band from Leeds, England (a city very close to my hometown, Manchester) that was formed back in 2007.
They have one studio album, An Awesome Wave which came out in 2012 and has songs like Breezeblocks, Ripe and Ruin, Fitzpleasure, Matilda, Taro, Tessellate and more!
I remember listening to Tessellate for the first time and thinking “Wooooaaaah” (have a listen to it and you’ll understand exactly what I mean!), plus, the video is very stylish and sophisticated.

I got the opportunity to see the boys perform live a few months ago and they were staggering! Their music has a very cool twang to it, makes you want to let go, shake it up, lose yourself.

They just released their latest single Every Other Freckle and you can have a listen to it here! It will be on their album This Is All Yours which will come out this September!

I must say, this band is definitely in my tops at the moment and have been for a while now!
