Remembering Etta

One of my favourite Soul, Blues and Jazz singers, Etta James would turn 78 years old today if she were still with us.

Etta began her career in 1954, gained fames with songs such as The Wallflower, Tell Mama, Something’s Got A Hold of Me, I’d Rather Go Blind and of course, At Last.

James passed away at the age of 73 on the 20th January 2012 in California.

Lets remember the Queen of Soul with two incredible, beautiful, wonderful songs.

At Last

It’s been 18 years, RIP Biggie.

18 years ago today, the music industry lost a very important soul, The Notorious B.I.G.

The Notorious B.I.G, also known as Biggie was raised in Brooklyn, NYC. He became very well known when he brought out his debut album Ready To Die back in 94′.

B.I.G was in LA presenting an award to Toni Braxton at the Soul Train Music Awards back in March 1997. After the Awards, Biggie got into his SUV with his entourage and at a traffic light a few block away from where the Awards were being held at, a man pulled up next to them, rolled down his window and shot at Biggie 4 times. He was rushed to hospital, but only a few minutes after arriving at the hospital, he was announced dead.

I’d like to share my fave Biggie tune with you al and R.I.P big man!!!

The Queen of Psychedelic Soul died 44 years ago today

The Queen of Psychedelic Soul, Janis Joplin passed away 44 years ago today.

She is one of the members of the 27 Club alongside artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones and Jim Morrison.

Janis rose to fame in the late 60’s and two of her huge gigs were: Monterey Pop Festival in California over the summer in 1967 and the one and only Woodstock in 1969.

A post couldn’t do Joplin justice, at the end of the day she was The Queen and her voice was and is iconic.

May we remember her with one of her hit songs, Maybe.

Remembering Cannonball Adderley

Legendary jazz saxophonist, Cannonball Adderley was born on this date in 1928.

Cannonball is remembered for his 1966 single Mercy Mercy Mercy, a smash hit on the pop charts, for working with trumpeter Miles David, Ray Charles amongst many other brilliant artists.

Even though Adderley may not be with us in spirit anymore, I’d like to dedicate this post to him and his earthy grooves of soul jazz!

RIP, Gustavo Cerati

One of my favorite songs in spanish is Persiana Americana by Soda Stereo.

Soda Stereo were an argentinian rock band and are considered one of the most important and influential bands of all time; Latin American legends!

Formed in 1982 in Buenos Aires by Gustavo Cerati, Zeta and Charly Alberti. They were the first latin rock band to achieve success in South, North and Central America.

In May 2010, Cerati was rushed to hospital to which a few days later we all found out he had a cerebrovascular accident. Since the 15th May 2010 until this morning people from all over the world had hope that Gustavo would make it through, unfortunately, at around 9am local time, the singer passed away as a result of respiratory failure.

May Cerati rest in peace. He was a good one!
