Welcome to nicthebrit.com

For those of you who know me, you don’t need to read this section, but for those who don’t…

I’m Nicole aka Nic the Brit – I’m not going to speak in third person as it’s me who’s writing this!

I was born and raised in Manchester, England. I’m 27 years young, and moved to Mexico City at the age of 15. Growing up in England, my dad showed me a lot of music, classics and new stuff – he’s a huge Gorillaz fan! I remember listening to vinyl’s in the living room, singing to The B-52’s in the car on the way to school, and going to basically EVERY pop band concert in Manchester.

Since moving to Mexico, my music hemisphere amplified, I discovered new bands, old bands that were totally new to me and started listening to a lot of Latin America stuff.

I worked on a radio station here in Mexico City called Ibero 90.9, and thanks to that, I became who I am today – I don’t know who I am exactly, but you get me!

I’ve interviewed many bands such as, Guns N’ Roses, Phoenix, Julian Casablancas and The Voidz, Aleks Syntek, Julieta Venegas, Os Mutantes, Jess Glynne, DLD, Caramelos de Cianuro, Villagrán Bolaños, Jumbo, Los Amigos Invisibles, Agrupación Cariño and more.

At the moment I freelance; interview bands, write for music magazines, do voice commercials, translate and give english classes to kids, collaborate on a show called Vigia on Reactor 105.7FM on Saturday’s from 6pm – 7pm alongside Jergas where I recommend new/upcoming bands from the U.K.

My dream: Dreams come true, so think big or go home!

Things I love: My family!!! Friends, traveling, eating (I’m a bit OCD with food), going to concerts and festivals, watching movies, discovering random things; from a new band to a quote in a movie, wearing the colour black, awkward situations, getting pampered, fashion, basmati rice, the smell and taste of licorice, hanging out with my nephews.

Here you’ll be able to read interviews I’ve done with international and national bands, reviews on new songs and albums, gossip – no, I’m not the next TMZ!, recommendations, feelings, ideas and a bunch of other things – all music related!

I would like to state that I don’t talk about any genre in particular, just what I’m in to.

I hope you enjoy this page massively, and if you’d like to contact me, don’t hesitate in doing so.

XOXO

“It’s All Happening”

Intro…

I’ve been waiting for this moment for quite sometime now… The day I’d have my own blog, write my own stuff, with my own style and so on.

The song “I Can See Clearly Now” by Johnny Nash is the song I want to start this blog off with… The lyrics are fantastic and the song is really… uplifting!

On this blog you’ll be able to read about concerts near you, reviews on concerts, interviews with bands, ins and outs about music festivals, random info on artists; practically anything to do with music and (nearly) every kind of genre!

Music has been a huge part of my life since I was a kid growing up in England… Growing up in Manchester, (where The Smiths, The Verve, New Order, The Bee Gees, Joy Division, Oasis, Take That, Morrissey, The Stone Roses, Elbow, David Gray – remember his song “Babylon”? Classic! – and more came from) I think not being close to music would be a shame!

Music has been and is my therapy.

I’ll be writing about ALL kinds of genres as I have a very diverse taste in music.

My dad (my inspiration in life) taught and showed me a lot regarding music, he was the one who introduced me to Johnny Cash, The B-52’s, R.E.M and more from a young age. Thanks to you, I am who I am, I am where I am, and your unconditional support has gotten me through hell… and heaven! THANK YOU, G!

A special thanks to my sisters, Danny and Lex, you guys are amazing and thank you for supporting me! To all my friends and family, especially Gabri and Pamela; you guys are my rock!!!

Got all emotional back there! Anyways, if you’d like to share, show, ask about anything, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
