This weeks recommendation: Sittin’ Pretty

As I mentioned a few days ago, I collaborate on a radio programme in Mexico City every Saturday from 6pm – 7pm on Reactor 105.7FM called Vigia.

I recommend upcoming/underground bands from the U.K – so please, if you have a band and/or know of someone in a band, let me know!

Sittin' Pretty

Jergas, the radio shows host put on some incredible tunes on Saturday such as Rudimental ft. Mahalia – We The Generation and Glass Animals – Haze.

Today I’m interviewing A Place To Bury Strangers

Today I’m interviewing New York based psychedelic rock band, A Place To Bury Strangers.

Oliver, Dion and Robi formed APTBS back in 2002 and their biggest musical influence is The Jesus and Mary Chain.

The guys have opened up for Nine Inch Nails, joined the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club back in 2007 on their Holy Fuck tour, supported MGMT and have toured all around the world.

Haslam (DJ at The Haçienda) to sell over 4,000 vinyls

Dave Haslam DJ-ed at The Haçienda (nightclub and music venue) over 450 times through the Madchester years back in the late 80’s and early 90’s.

Dave Haslam

(He played on the last night the club was open – June 28th 1997!)

Haslam has been credited as an inspiration to bands such as The Chemical Brothers, Tim Burgess and Ian Brown (lead singer of the Stone Roses) and has been described as “the man with golden ears”.

Dave has played at after parties for New Order, Gorillaz and Depeche Mode and music festivals all over the world.

His DJ philosophy is “playing the best records ever made one after the other.”

At the moment Haslam hosts a number of club nights in Manchester and has pursued a career as a writer and journalist.

Well, Dave recently posted the following on Facebook and got an incredible response and feedback from music lovers all over the globe…

I can’t even begin to imagine what one could come across while flipping through over 4,000 pieces of art owned by this fella…. *deep breath*

Haslam wrote the following on his post “ALL MY VINYL is for sale, but ideally I would like someone to take the whole lot..” – passionate guy that’s for sure!

I’d love to buy each and everyone of them, but I’m sure it’s kind of pricey, and… well… I don’t have enough room for 400 vinyl’s, never mind 4,000!

To whoever the lucky owner of the vinyl’s may be, RESPECT!

Welcome to nicthebrit.com

Welcome to nicthebrit.com

For those of you who know me, you don’t need to read this section, but for those who don’t…

I’m Nicole aka Nic the Brit – I’m not going to speak in third person as it’s me who’s writing this!

I was born and raised in Manchester, England. I’m 27 years young, and moved to Mexico City at the age of 15. Growing up in England, my dad showed me a lot of music, classics and new stuff – he’s a huge Gorillaz fan! I remember listening to vinyl’s in the living room, singing to The B-52’s in the car on the way to school, and going to basically EVERY pop band concert in Manchester.

Since moving to Mexico, my music hemisphere amplified, I discovered new bands, old bands that were totally new to me and started listening to a lot of Latin America stuff.

I worked on a radio station here in Mexico City called Ibero 90.9, and thanks to that, I became who I am today – I don’t know who I am exactly, but you get me!

I’ve interviewed many bands such as, Guns N’ Roses, Phoenix, Julian Casablancas and The Voidz, Aleks Syntek, Julieta Venegas, Os Mutantes, Jess Glynne, DLD, Caramelos de Cianuro, Villagrán Bolaños, Jumbo, Los Amigos Invisibles, Agrupación Cariño and more.

At the moment I freelance; interview bands, write for music magazines, do voice commercials, translate and give english classes to kids, collaborate on a show called Vigia on Reactor 105.7FM on Saturday’s from 6pm – 7pm alongside Jergas where I recommend new/upcoming bands from the U.K.

My dream: Dreams come true, so think big or go home!

Things I love: My family!!! Friends, traveling, eating (I’m a bit OCD with food), going to concerts and festivals, watching movies, discovering random things; from a new band to a quote in a movie, wearing the colour black, awkward situations, getting pampered, fashion, basmati rice, the smell and taste of licorice, hanging out with my nephews.

Here you’ll be able to read interviews I’ve done with international and national bands, reviews on new songs and albums, gossip – no, I’m not the next TMZ!, recommendations, feelings, ideas and a bunch of other things – all music related!

I would like to state that I don’t talk about any genre in particular, just what I’m in to.

I hope you enjoy this page massively, and if you’d like to contact me, don’t hesitate in doing so.

XOXO

Nic the Brit
