13 years later, Afroman releases a new version of Because I Got High

Because I Got High was a national anthem back in 2001. I remember being in New York with my dad, hearing the song being played at every shop, restaurant and radio station.
The song was a massive hit all over the world and became #1 in places like Australia, Austria, UK, Germany, New Zealand and many more.

Point is, Afroman – the guy that wrote the song in just a few minutes – released a new Because I Got High, he obviously still gets high, but the lyrics are a lot more positive and thanks to Mary Jane, he doesn’t drink or smoke cigs anymore, and he wakes up a very happy person…

Have a look at both 2001 and 2014’s Because I Got High below!

Hielo Fino, Quiero Club’s first single off their 10 year commemorative album

Quiero Club (translates to “I Want Club” in english) are an experimental pop/indie band from Monterrey, Mexico.

I got the opportunity to interview the four members, Luis Fara, Priscila, Marcela Viejo & Boscop about 2 years ago, they were a fun bunch to interview, and had recently moved to Mexico City.

They released their debut album in 2006 called WOF and have 4 albums in total. Next year they’ll celebrate 10 years of Quiero Club (the band formed in 2004 and released a few singles before the debut of their first album) by releasing an album called Diez.

Hielo Fino is the first song the band have released that will be on their 10 year commemorative album. Have a listen to it here!

Taylor Swift covers Riptide in the Live Lounge

Taylor Swift covered Vance Joy’s – Riptide in the Live Lounge for Fearne Cotton (I’m a HUGE Cotton fan!!!) a few days ago.

People can criticize the blonde bombshell regarding her thrashing her ex’s in her songs, being a bit annoying and so on, but she’s an extremely talented girl… No doubt about that!

Have a look at her perform Riptide in the Live Lounge below.

Track of the day

Reservoir Dogs is one of my fave movies, and as it’s Thursday, the weekend’s a step away and well, there’s no need for reasons to listen to the following song, I present to you….

Eagles of Death Metal – Stuck in the Metal

Well, I don’t know why I came here tonight
I got the feeling that something ain’t right
I’m so scared in case I fall off my chair
And I’m wondering how I’ll get down the stairs

Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right
Here I am, stuck in the metal with you
Yes, I’m stuck in the metal with you
And I’m wondering what it is I should do

It’s so hard to keep the smile from my face
Lose control and I’m all over the place
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right
Here I am, stuck in the metal with you

Well, you started out with nothing
And you’re proud that you’re a self-made man
And your friends, they all come running
And grab you on the back and say, “Please, please”

And I tried to make some sense of it all
But I can see that it makes no sense at all
Is it blue to go to sleep on the floor?
‘Cause I don’t think that I can take anymore

Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right
Here I am, stuck in the metal with you

Well, you started out with nothing
And you’re proud that you’re a self-made man
And your friends, they all come crawling
And slap you on the back and say, “Please, please”

Yes, I’m stuck in the metal with you
Here I am, stuck in the metal with you
Yes, I’m stuck in the metal with you
Here I am, stuck in the metal with you

Oh, here I am

Don’t know why I came here tonight
I got the feeling that something ain’t right
I’m so scared in case I fall off my chair
And I’m wondering how I’ll get down the stairs

Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right
Here I am, stuck in the metal with you

London based record label, Young Turks isn’t too happy and they have all the reason not to be!

Young Turks – a London based record label for SBTRKT, John Talabot, Chairlift, Jack Penate, The xx, and more isn’t too happy at the moment….

Hugo Boss used a song made by an unidentified producer that sounded identical to The xx‘s Intro for a sunglasses advert. I understand why the record label got all steamed up and it seems as though HB have removed the video from YouTube.

Have a listen to Intro here!

Larry King interviewed Steve Aoki and spoke about drugs, cakes and more…

Larry King sat down with producer, DJ and EDM artist, Steve Aoki and spoke about where he got the idea of throwing cake at his shows from, the use of drugs by people in the audience, how he got into the DJ world and more.

The interview is a little over 20 minutes long, but Larry is a fantastic host and interviewer, and to be honest, I had never seen an Aoki interview until today and I found him really interesting. He’s a cool dude.

Good one, Muse!

English rock band, Muse were kind of forced to do a playback performance on national TV in Italy… – I’ve seen them play live, with no playback, and they were INCREDIBLE, so I really don’t know why they were forced to do a playback gig… Anyways, watch the following video and see what the guys did… They mocked the world! Matt (lead singer) played the drums like a total shmock but in a VERY cool way, Dominic (usually on the drums) was the lead singer and played bass and Chris (bass, vocals and keyboards) played on the keyboards and guitar!

After this, I LOVE Muse more than ever before!!!

AlunaGeorge’s latest single Supernatural is GORGEOUS

A friend in England introduced me to AlunaGeorge a few years ago and I fell for their vibe the second I heard them.

AlunaGeorge are an english electronic music duo, consisting of Aluna Francis (vocals & songwriting) and George Reid (production and instrumentation) – a bit obvious why they’re called AlunaGeorge 🙂

You Know You Like It was AG’s first single and came out in April 2012 as a digital download. The duos first commercial single Your Drums, Your Love came out in Sept 2012. Aluna and George also collaborated with Disclosure on their hit single White Noise – which I absolutely LOVE and can listen to 133 times in a row!

AG just released their latest single Supernatural on Friday. Have a listen to it here!

The Queen of Psychedelic Soul died 44 years ago today

The Queen of Psychedelic Soul, Janis Joplin passed away 44 years ago today.

She is one of the members of the 27 Club alongside artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones and Jim Morrison.

Janis rose to fame in the late 60’s and two of her huge gigs were: Monterey Pop Festival in California over the summer in 1967 and the one and only Woodstock in 1969.

A post couldn’t do Joplin justice, at the end of the day she was The Queen and her voice was and is iconic.

May we remember her with one of her hit songs, Maybe.
